Tuesday Bible Study
Our Bible Study will be in Castro Valley. We are on our eighth and final session.
Some thoughts....
"History shows us what can happen when a civilization turns its back on God - and it also shows us the extraordinary changes that can happen when a fresh knowledge of God is sought after and reincorporated into a culture's priorities."
The church's dirty little word is repentance. Today's church is filled with good christians and very few great ones. We have people at "church," who are pretenders of the faith. We have failed to take God seriously and abused His love, grace, and mercy. How often have we heard a message on God's Holiness? Rarely. The church is no different from the world.
It's time for the church to wake up! We need men and women like Josiah, who at the age of twenty, sought after God, smashing altars and idols of false religions - 2 Chronicles 34. At the age of twenty six, he "saw the Lord," and experienced personal revival. God calls us to repent - change our minds, our feelings, and LIFESTYLE about our gross sin towards God so that we can "see the Lord."
Last time, our Adult and the Singles (Wed night) learned what to do in order to live out the Bible. The simple yet powerful questions of Bible study has impacted a few of the people in the group.
"What does God's Word say?" Observe
"What does God's Word mean?" Learn a lesson
"What does God's Word mean to me?" Apply
The fourth question, "How do I live it out?", was as powerful as the others. People got excited about the Word more than ever. We will never see the Scriptures the same again. God's Word is indeed alive and transforms the hearts!

WAIT
by an unknown author.
Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried;
Quietly, patiently, lovingly, God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate . . .
And the Master so gently said, "Wait."
"Wait? you say wait?" my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By faith I have asked, and I'm claiming your Word.
"My future and all to which I relate
Hangs in the balance, and you tell me to wait?
I'm needing a 'yes', a go-ahead sign,
Or even a 'no' to which I can resign.
"You promised, dear Lord, that if we believe,
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply."
Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate,
As my Master replied again, "Wait."
So I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut,
And grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting for what?"
He seemed then to kneel, and His eyes met with mine . . .
and He tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead and cause mountains to run.
"I could give all you seek and pleased you would be.
You'd have what you want, but you wouldn't know Me.
You'd not know the depth of my love for each saint.
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint.
"You'd not learn to see through clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there.
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence are all you can see.
"You'd never experience the fullness of love
When the peace of My spirit descends like a dove.
You would know that I give, and I save, for a start,
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of My heart.
"The glow of my comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight.
The depth that's beyond getting just what you ask
From an infinite God who makes what you have last.
"You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that My grace is sufficient for thee.
Yes, your dearest dreams overnight would come true,
But, oh, the loss, if you missed what I'm doing in you.
"So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to truly know me.
And though oft My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still . . . Wait."

DVD - BEYOND THE GATES OF SPLENDOR - A MUST SEE
A couple of weeks ago, the Adult and Singles groups got to see this wonderful and challenging documentary of Jim Elliot, his four friends, and their families sacrificed their lives to reach the Waodanis of Ecuador. Our small groups were touched by their examples and challenged us to count the cost of following Jesus.
This kind of story seems to place one's problems into perspective in light of eternity.
"Based on the amazing true story that inspired Elisabeth Elliot's best-seller, Through Gates of Splendor, comes an incredible documentary film. When five missionary families travel to Ecuador, they find creative ways to connect with an isolated tribe, the Waodani. Although at first they find acceptance, eventually, some meet with hostility, and ultimately death. In a testament to unsurpassed forgiveness, however, members of the slain missionaries' families return to the Amazonian basin and live among the tribe. Featuring first-hand accounts of this fascinating story, including recent tribe interviews, this powerful, award-winning documentary is one you will never forget."

Family Camp
We had a wonderful and blessed time at this year's family camp this past June. We thank you for Pastor Ed Lacaba for encouraging us to share Christ in all areas of our lives.
The "Wise Men" lost the volleyball tournament with the young men. We look forward to redeeming the loss in this year's church picnic in Cull Canyon.
One of the highlights that touched my heart was Saturday's bonfire. People shared their praises and hurts. That moment allowed us to "weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice."Friendships were created and rekindled. And most of all, our Heavenly Father was glorified that weekend. Soli Deo Gloria!

Fireproof The Movie
This is a must see movie.
"Others who are right now in the middle of ugly emotions driven by marital neglect, apathy and want, will surely be compelled by Fireproof to skip such emotional promises and tender bonding and instead break out the survival gear right away, putting into practice some of the principles they've just seen brought to life... It'd make our Savior happier, too." - pluggedinonline.com

'Twas the Month After Christmas
'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste,
At the holiday parties, had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales, there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store, less a walk than a lumber
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces, and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese,
And the way I'd never said, "No, thank you, please."
As I dressed myself, in my husband's old shirt,
And prepared once again, to do battle with dirt,
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can spend winter disguised as a man!"
So away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew, a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot, and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore-
But isn't that what January's for?
Unable to giggle no longer a riot
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet.
